In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film on a rural Texas farm, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the crew finds themselves fighting for their lives.. The Day After X (2022) premiere of South by Southwest writer/director Ti West revealed that during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine at his hotel in New Zealand, before production could begin on this film, he wrote the prequel, Pearl (2022). A24 saw the script and gave the green light to the film even before production on "X" had wrapped. He asked star Mia Goth if she wanted to stay in New Zealand and film "Pearl" and she readily accepted.

When Lorraine goes into the basement and turns on the light, there is a modern halogen bulb, which wasn’t available in 1979.. Maxine: I won’t accept a life I don’t deserve.. No opening credits there. The title doesn’t even appear on the screen until the end..
I was thrilled to see such a stellar cast, including Jenna Ortega and Brittany Snow

I first watched this movie as an introduction to the acting of Mia Goth, who I must say is amazing in this movie. On that note, I think the script didn’t live up to the potential of the cast. If you’re looking for a nostalgic 70’s/80’s style slasher flick, this might be for you.
Overall, his movie was good but not great
The motivations of the characters in this movie left a lot to be explained and fell flat in my eyes. In addition, this film serves as an introduction to the previous sequel, "Pearl" which is far better performed and "X" it’s totally worth watching just to experience the "Pearl" in full glory. However, I look forward to character development in the companion films surrounding this plot line. A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
