In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a prestigious job that she is ill-suited for, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new US Embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. The UK allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honour rarely granted to any film or screen production, especially an American one. Although it is aptly described as the largest residential plot in London (11 hectares) outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.

Wait, I think about halfway through the first season of the show, one of the subplots went in a slightly different direction than I expected, and that was good. Otherwise, the dysfunctional relationships — both personal and professional — between the main characters work, and I like that. The writers managed to keep the plot focused. Both the characters and the plot work.
Are they believable?
Of course, it’s not very believable, but it’s fun and sometimes exciting. “Madam Secretary” it is not; and it is not “Veep.” And that’s a very good thing. I have to mention that the acting and dialogue are also quite good. The casting was well done.
But that’s okay
Again, no. I realized very quickly that this is fantasy, not reality. Netflix did a good job here. I’m really looking forward to season two.
