The whole cast is uniformly strong
I thought this would be a pat, simplistic demonization of Trump but to my surprise it actually adds depth and shading to him by exploring the corrupting influence of roy cohn on his mind and psyche. If anything, sebastian stan's deeply realized performance – which should win any award handed to rami malek for what I'd say was a lesser biopic performance – makes young Trump more understandable, if not always sympathetic. Jeremy Strong is also excellent as Roy Cohn.
And the rendering of period nyc was stunning and transporting
I'm honestly shocked this movie almost didn't see the light of day. Trump would he pleased to see himself rendered as a morally ambiguous character in the recent tradition of the roy family of "succession" or don draper of "mad men."
