James Gunn pitched ‘CREATURE COMMANDOS’ before taking over DC
It follows a group of military superhumans consisting of a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Gunn then greenlit the project when he became the CEO of DC Studios. Series writer and creator James Gunn appears in the opening titles with a laptop typing up a script.

After all this waiting (despite all the debunking and confirmations about it), the all-new DCU kicks off its “Gods and Monsters” chapter with its first series “Creature Commandos,” and from the title of the first chapter, it literally has one!

The Creature Commandos, the first DCU series, has all sorts of things going for it, from retconning the past to looking ahead to the future. I personally like Zack Snyder and James Gunn the most, as they bring the DC movie experience into the modern era. Except Zack was at Netflix while preparing to return to WB with a 300 project, and James was now at the helm with Peter Safran, a longtime DC insider and his producer.

a crazy mix of the world of superheroes, gods and deities and monster troops, I’ve seen the first few episodes of this, consider this an insane kickoff to the entire DCU with some clever recaps and some cameos from obscure and popular DCU characters, although the whole plot was great, I personally love the creepy storyline about the character’s origins, and the fluid and clean, high quality animation, despite James making it clear that “everyone knows Superman’s origins by now, so why do we need to repeat it?”, he definitely gives the Spotlight of the original to these characters as he did in the MCU, while the series can also be a satire of the current situation and really crazy events in the world and mix them with DCU locations and events like Metropolis and Themyscira, consider all this, The Villain, Circe, crashed the party and somehow figured out the whole plot in later episodes, the songs are very nostalgic, the series also contains several tributes to classic DC Comics, Hammer and Universal Monster Films, anime, Franco-Belge “Bande Dessinee” and its “Ligne Claire”, Spanish culture, European films, modern-day action films, it’s all a pretty monstrous start to the DCU, but the best is yet to come… for now, the DCU and its futures and Elseworlds (while we have Batman and Joker in it, but the Snyderverse and Ayer were cut, are Reeves and Keaton in?) are just getting started with Superman in 2025, expect more episodes and more DCU.
