In Sing Sing, Divine G, incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit, finds meaning in life by acting in a theater group with other incarcerated men in this story about resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. At the beginning of the film, the cast auditions for various roles in the play. The group is criticized for not doing comedies, even though their previous play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is a comedy.

Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers: Anna Faris/Colman Domingo/Jose Medeles (2024). This movie made me cry, smile, laugh, and feel really good. I feel like this is a movie for humanity.
I love the hope this movie gave me
At the end of the day, people are just people. I’m not sure I would have chosen this film to see in theaters, but I was just horrified by how beautiful the film is. I don’t know anything about awards and when these decisions are made.
The characters seem authentic and are absolutely lovable
I would be absolutely shocked if this film didn’t win an award. I was very surprised to learn more about the cast at the end of the film and that made me cry even more. Happy tears.
Hope feels good
I enjoyed that the characters were so raw in their portrayals and I just can’t say it enough. This film is big and feels so important.
