Miller is denied entry to Hitler’s apartment because it is “Officers Only”
Tale
The story of American photographer Lee Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II. The production was granted full access to the Lee Miller Archives, with the full cooperation and trust of Miller’s family. War correspondents were given the rank of captain, so technically he should have been allowed entry by the US Army guard.

Lee Miller: [Handing a knife to a girl he just saved from rape] Next time, cut it out. The end credits have some “what happened to” explanations; and some of Lee’s original photos, often alongside those recreated for the film. I was very excited to see Kate Winslet in this passion project and of course she always delivers with her superb performance and the direction is definitely well done and provides a unique perspective on WWII.
It almost feels like his part was edited out for good reasons as it was a poor choice and so many really good British actors who could capture their supposed chemistry
However, the lack of focus on Lee Miller’s beginnings as a fashion model and her artistic surroundings including Picasso and the elites with a brief quick introduction to a wasted Alexander Skars as a Brit who has no chemistry or anything unique to add which is a shame. Also, the first half felt poorly timed and thankfully Adam Sandberg brings some depth to the Nazi scenes especially the Holocaust although the bathroom scene was over the top but without understanding the fashion and elite artistic crowd Lee hung out with before, it kind of makes no sense and feels out of place. Lee was the fashion model who was great and here she comes across as an older, boring fashion photographer without much spark or evolution from fashion girl to WWII photographer with the same kind of spark.
Go with low expectations and you will enjoy the movie
The worst part of the movie was the interview scenes between son and mother which have a terrible ending that tries to create some synergy between Lee and her past which could have easily been handled better as it felt rushed and out of place. I will omit the spoiler as it is just a weird ending but maybe that was the point of leaving a few lines of paragraph to explain the decision. Regardless, it is a truly magnificent movie and it is always a pleasure to see Kate Winslet shine as an actress, even if the script falls short, that does not take away from the great direction. 7 stars.
