Tale
A Montana ranching family clashes with others encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts to the Southern California speaking voice he normally uses.
Costner is a master actor in the lead role of Dutton
Appeared in WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows You Don’t Have on Your Radar (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I didn’t expect to like the series, but the plot, acting, and camera work are superb. Basically, it’s mafia wars in Montana with huge doses of testosterone at times (cowboys with guns on horses fishing)!
The show falls off early in the second season but picks up again halfway through
The show is at its best when it shows the moves on the chessboard made by the Duttons and their enemies. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and performs poorly, the plot gets lost awkwardly and the acting just falls flat. I think Cole Hauser as Rip is perhaps the strongest actor (other than Costner himself) and I couldn’t wait to see all the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is gripping and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show hits home in a similar way. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
